To begin with, we see that an association can either be officially adjusted in its available resources of getting things done and various procedures or the equivalent may very well be in a manner casual in a significant number of its exercises and undertakings. Book Smarts vs. Street Smarts - 1489 Words

Is One Better Than The Other? In 2006, when five hundred dropouts were interviewed, they gave many reasons for leaving school. Forty-seven percent, almost half of the students interviewed said that they left simply because they found their classes were not interesting. I think that a main problem in today’s school systems is that they are not connecting enough with the students and gaining their interest. Many students’ street smarts greatly surpass their book smarts. I believe that instructors can strengthen students’ book smarts by encouraging them to write, read, think, and learn about personal areas of interest. Both Malcolm X, and Gerald Graff make very interesting points about street and book smarts. I definitely believe that you must have both street and book smarts to be the most successful in life. I really like when Graff says, â€Å"Every â€Å"street smart† student has just as much potential as a â€Å"book smart† student, and knowledge does not just come through the classroom, but through everyday experiences.† So many times people think that if a person appears to have more street smarts than book smarts then they don’t have as much potential or aren’t as smart. Graduation Speech College Experience - 870 Words

First, I would like to explore the â€Å"typical† route students will take upon graduating high school. In 2015, there were an estimated 20.2 million students expected to attend American colleges and universities, with 13.2 million of those students choosing 4-year universities (nces.ed.gov). Generally, 4-year universities prepare young adults for a degree that can help them continue on to grad school or a career in that field. Large universities have massive amounts of resources, funding, programs, and professors that can help students network and find internships or jobs in their degree field. Students also have access to hundreds of different academic, social, volunteer, or vocational clubs and groups. One of the best benefits of going to a four-year university is the college experience. Both of my parents say the friends they have now are the ones they met in college, and they get to reminisce on all the fun times they had. A university experience typically allows you to l ive away from home, thus gaining independence and creating your own lifestyle. For most high school students, the university experience is a big reason in why a majority of students choose this route. For some students, the drawbacks to a university outweigh the benefits. On average, tuition costs, school fees, and room and board at a public university is about $15,000 per year, while private universities are even higher at about $40,000 per year (nces.ed.gov). Today’s working culture demands a great deal of commitment and effort from the employees, who in turn naturally expect a great deal more from their employers. The development of much more participative style of management in many organizations is a positive step towards meeting such heightened expectations. This participative style can be expressed in a variety of practical ways. For e. g. work teams, quality circles, and of course regular performance appraisals. The performance of the organization is dependent on sum total of the performance of its employees. Thus the success of the organization will, therefore depend on its ability to measure accurately the performance of its members and use it objectively to optimize them as a vital resources. Performance can be measured by some combination of quantity, quality, time and cost. Performance thus refers to the degree of accomplishment of the tasks that make up an individual job. It indicates how well an individual is fulfilling the job demands. And on the other hand success of any organization can almost always be tracked back to the level of motivation among its employees to whom its success can be accredited to, without a doubt. Motivation is must for the employees, because it converts ability to work into will to work or in other words contributes to high level of performance. Presence of effective motivational policies in the company leads to job satisfaction and consequent benefits of higher commitment and loyalty. Keeping in mind the growing attrition rates and the employee dissatisfaction among the employees, the HR professionals are approaching and using the performance appraisal as a fuel to motivate employees. The latest trend being followed by the HR professionals is to use the performance appraisal and review process as a motivating mechanism. Various surveys and studies have testified the relationship between performance review, pay and motivation. Other than the traditional goal of accessing the performance of the employees, Performance appraisals and reviews can be used as a tool to reinforce the desired behavior and competent performance of the employees. Performance appraisal can have a profound effect on levels of employee motivation and satisfaction for better as well as for worse. Performance appraisal provides employees with recognition for their work efforts. The power of social recognition as an incentive has been long noted. In fact, there is evidence that human beings will even prefer negative recognition in preference to no recognition at all. One of the most motivating factors for the employees, in the performance appraisal processes is to receive a fair an accurate assessment of their performance. Inaccurate evaluation is one reason because of which most employees dead going through performance appraisal. An employee always expects his appraiser to recognize and appreciate his achievements, support him to overcome the problems and failures. The discrepancies and the inaccuracies in the performance review can demotivate the employees, even if there has been an increase in the salary. Such inaccuracy can kill the innovating and risk taking enthusiasm and spirit in the employees. Similarly, inaccurate reviews with no hike in compensation can increase the attrition rate in the organization, forcing the employees to look out for other options. An employee prefers an accurate performance review with no increase in the salary over inaccurate performance review with an increase in salary. Employees, who receive both accuracy and a pay increase during their performance review, are likely to be the most motivated. Therefore, performance appraisal (review and its consequence in the form of compensation adjustments) has the potential of motivating employees and increase their job satisfaction. Inaccurate performance review + Increase in salary Decreased Motivation Accurate Performance Review + No Increase in salary Decreased Motivation Accurate Performance Review + Increase in salary Increase in motivation If nothing else, the existence of an appraisal program indicates to an employee that in the organization is genuinely interested in their individual performance and development. This alone can have a positive influence on the employee motivation, sense of worth, commitment and belonging. The strength and prevalence of this natural human desire for individual recognition shouldn’t be overlooked. Absenteeism and turnover rates in some organizations might be greatly reduced if more attention were paid to it. Regular performance appraisal, at least, is a good start. Yousif Saleh Essays - Education, Knowledge Sharing,

Yousif Saleh Philyaw AP Lang 3/13/16 Synthesis Essay: Technology Throughout the years of education, Technology has become integrated into the scholastic system. Technology has become a widespread method of schooling as it proves to be beneficial for the advancement of the students' performance. Although technology allows teaching to become more fluid, it can hinder the performance of students. National test scores are declining ever since technology became a daily part of people's boring lives. There are speculations to why students are obtaining drastically inferior results; however, the most obvious reason to this phenomenon is the implementation of technology in society and especially in schools. A school should consider the effects of technology on students' cognitive ability and the probability for students to commit to off-task activities. Students tend to deliberate less with the wide usage of technology. They place an extreme amount of trust on the internet and rarely rely on their own cognitive prowess. This reliance on technology causes students to feel at ease since no actual thinking is involved and the solutions are all located with a click of a button. Without the ability to properly analyze and brainstorm, students will be hopeless when technology is stripped from them. During a timed essay prompt, technology will not be there to aid the students through the assignment. Essays require highly advanced analysis and creatively skills since the student must take position regarding the prompt. To develop an argument, one must completely have faith in themselves and determine faults in both their own argument and the opposing argument. Technology does nothing but diminishes their capabilities to do so. Dyson asserts that technology "stifles a child's imagination rather than stimulate it." (Source C). Instead of technology improving the extent of a child's imagination it ruins and encloses it. This must be recognized by schools because if technology is not used wisely, it can seriously affect students' academic betterment. It is almost as if technology locks people up in a virtual prison. Angel Boligan draws a fascinating cartoon of a child imprisoned in a dark and gloomy room (Source F). The child is experiencing the outside world through a television screen, and this is a perfect example of the entanglement that technology oppresses on students. As the student watches only the television, he completely depends on the TV for information. In a sense, nature represents the blossoms of creativity and technology holds students back from true enlightenment. Although I made it seem like technology is a horrible device to use for education it has some benefits. It allows academics to become more convenient and accessible for both students and teachers. The internet provides students with a wealth of information that could assist students when and if they are perplexed about a certain topic. With a click of a button, students are able to find explanations and solutions to problems they couldn't probe through. I learn efficiently through everyday technology. Delaney affirms that technology "allows educators to interact with students, parents and each other in ways they never have before." (Source B). Innovation generated a large community of educator with a goal of providing knowledge to their fellow students. Students can access all sorts of information to their benefit. Gelernter quotes from President Clinton that technology "could make it possible for every child to reach every book ever written." (Source E). With every book ever written, students can become literary geniuses, but they choose not to. Rotstein argues that "electronic materials will get students more engaged in learning." (Source A). However, I ultimately deviate from his point of view because technology will only lead students to conform to non-scholastic online activities. None of the sources address this issue as a problem to the school system but I dispute that it is most important. If students don't stay on the course given materials, then they won't learn anything at all. There are an abundance of information on the internet, consisting of beneficial and useless information. Since the internet is such a broad medium it is easy for students to drive off-task. The internet mostly consists of garbage that can only restrict the human mind. Gelernter offers another point of view claiming that the internet "is
